Bye-bye Berhampore

Having had an amazing 3 years in our Adelaide Road boutique/workroom, sadly it is time to say au revoir.

This Friday 26th & Saturday 27th October is our last weekend and we're having a HUGE workroom sale.
Everything's reduced...clothing, samples, fabric, vintage bric-a-brac...lots of treasures looking for a new home.

I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the lovely locals (and not so local) folks that have popped in and taken home a pretty dress, cosy cardi or gorgeous gift, and helped take emma from a home based, single handed business to a fashion label dressing some of the nicest and most stylish women in our cool creative capital, Wellington, and beyond.

I'm really lucky to have had this opportunity and must thank my 'landlords' the marvellous Maranui Surf Club cafe, all the local craftswomen who have supplied such beautiful stock, Hannah my awesome assistant and you for supporting New Zealand made businesses (nice one ladies, keep it up:)

Hope to see you this weekend & toast to a jolly good past and a future full of lots more journeys in fashion, cheers!!

Sweet 1960s

Getting excited about the new winter '12 season and have lots of inspiration courtesy of some very cool women from the music and fashion scene of the 1960s...
Twiggy and those lurvely eyelashes, Patti Boyd's sweet style & staunch attitude ( love that knitted beret:), Pamela Courson's rock'n'roll love life, Mary Quant's innovation of shape and amazing style and the photography of John French...inspiring!!!

flying south little bird, then join the FLOCK here...

It's had a tough year in Christchurch but they're definitely finding their feet again, which is fantastic:)
Our stockist FLOCK in Sumner, having managed to stay open through most of the shakes, is celebrating the arrival of lots of lovely new season summer clothing (including yours truly of course, emma) and gorgeous gifts!
Well worth the drive out their way and well worth your support ( and there's even an Emma in residence so you'll really feel at home)

Behind the scenes at summer shoot

Love this time of year as one (fashion) season becomes another.
I know, so the temperatures might not be that summery yet but at emma we're thinking about where we want to go on holiday and what we want to wear.
I really like this emma season ahead with lots of 1970's inspiration in the range.
Great colours like orange and purple, striking stripes, a cool beachy print designed exclusively for us by Karin Amdal :) and a very cute ship-shape cotton print that I totally love (hope you will too)
Thought you might like to take a peek at what's ahead for emma and we made a little movie of behind the scenes at our shoot for the new season.
Feel the warmth and imagine the sunshine, emx

Bill Cunningham inspires me

Last weekend, Bella and I went to a documentary about Bill Cunningham, the New York based photographer who chronicles Street Style for the NY Times and does it on a bike, with a film camera at the age of 80. What a guy, we loved it. It was amazing not only for the fashion but it took us away to the streets of New York and Paris as seen through the eyes of a truly good, honest and creative man. If you're ever feeling a bit weary of the world this is a tonic:

Winter's here finally

Yep it may be raining and chilly but it's a great excuse to snuggle up in your winter woolies and layer, layer, layer.
Having a late night at emma tomorrow night and hope the weather doesn't scare everyone away.
Remember cold hands, warm heart...there's lots to warm you in-store at the mo:)
See you Tuesday 25th May 5-8pm, bubbles on me!

Gotta love Grace

Though I haven't quite got around to going to the Film Festival much in recent years my pal Karin got way organized this year and booked us films online, thanks hun.
The fashion films were a real incentive and so far have loved loved loved 'The September Issue'.
Had seats quite close to the screen and was pleasantly surprised at the lack of botoxed beauties working at American Vogue.
The lovely Grace Coddington was an inspiration, described by The Independant as ...
' flame-haired, make-up free and an imaginative rebel' she was a perfect foil to the immaculate Anna Wintour.
I can't wait for this to return, it's a definate one for return viewing.
Also saw 'Coco' a couple of nights ago, mostly about the early years of Coco Chanel.
Not quite as engaging a film to me as the previous one but still solid fashion action and I was left admiring her strength of character and how film really illustrated the fashion changes she lived through and how so many of them were created by her.
Next up is 'Valentino' which Bella and I are looking forward to this weekend. Italian excess should be fun.
Movie time is a good time when it's cold outside.xx.

Live like Lola opens!

And where else but in that wee little wine oasis across cook strait - Blenheim!
Hmmm.. you think what's that about?
Well it's about a brand spanking new store run by the very lovely Karen.
She's been doing her homework and built up a local following with her great mix of labels and now has found the perfect permanent spot for Lola to call home 14 Wynen Street right in the centre of town.
emma is really happy to be stocking there so pop on in and help celebrate the opening and I'm sure Karen will find you something perfect to wear this wild and woolly winter.

Owls and starry nights at ANZFW

Paul Densem @ teaspoon (Island Bay based of course!) made this fantastic animated film for emma which set the mood brilliantly for the show.
Leaving the comfort of your crackling campfire enter a moody fairy-tale forest on a starry night, with the cutest owls coming along to keep you company, as you get lost with emma.

Also there's a video of the Verge Breakthrough show featuring emma on the link below:

It's almost like being there:)
